Sonoma County Elder Abuse Prevention Project

Each year, nearly a quarter of a million Californians are victims of elder or dependent adult abuse. Elder abuse is any form of mistreatment resulting in harm or loss to an older person, and includes physical, emotional and financial abuse, as well as neglect. No one is immune, but everyone can help make a difference.

Free Informational Sessions

The Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging is offering free informational sessions on elder abuse prevention to community organizations. The sessions will be discussions led by seniors for seniors and those who care about them. For more information, call 707-565-5950.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15

Over 3,000 reports of elder abuse are made each year in Sonoma County.

Sonoma County is joining communities across the globe to raise awareness of elder abuse, and to encourage actions that empower older adults, educate the community and enhance intergenerational relationships.

We are united in a commitment to ensuring that Sonoma County is a community where all members can live safe and secure lives free of abuse, neglect and exploitation

Show the world you care about ending elder abuse and neglect by wearing something purple on June 15.
